Orangevale has a history that patterns many beloved small towns that developed in the late 1880’s. The colony was promoted as a farmer’s paradise and as the ideal suburb. The type of place where families could support themselves on just a few acres of land and band together to form cooperatives to support the entire community. This romantic American ideal of a rural community remains today. Culinary journalist and community historian Maryellen Burns will share the stories of Orangevale’s early beginnings, from its days as home to the Maidu people, the cattlemen and seekers of fortune, to the formation of the Orangevale Colony, and subsequent generations who have made Orangevale their home, today.
